Merchiston Tennis Club is holding a Festival of Tennis for the local community on Sunday, 1 September, 10am to 4pm and would love your support. 

  Thank you to everyone who supported the WMP ceilidh in February. Together, w e raised over £6,000 which our partners will use to improve the health, education and sporting opportunities of children and young people in Malawi and protect the remaining forests of Mulanje and Zomba Plateau.

  During our visit to Thom's Colourful Classrooms in October, we learned of Thom's plans to build his own solar powered irrigation system to grow food for the school children. There are now nearly 200 children of nursery school age who depend on Thom's school to eat so we were only too pleased to help him with the costs.  This week, we we were so pleased to learn Thom's plan is taking shape at pace! Thank you for your kind message I'm always grateful to hear from you 😊   We are all doing just fine And our school garden has just begun.We have planted some maize as we are in rain season.  Many thanks to GWC for the support 🙏 May God bless you all 🙌 .  We managed to purchase a tank and pump and installation is in process.   Thank you to everyone who supported the Watson's Malawi plant sale. Together, we raised over £600 - every penny of which will be given to our partners in Malawi. A very special thank you to Merchiston Tennis Club who allowed us to host our event on their premises and even provided coffee and buns for the occasion. And to Pauline for all her beautiful annuals, in full bloom, and to Veronica for her highly sought-after marmelade!   Retired midwife, Joan Pears, was so moved by her recent visit to Achikondi Clinic that she felt compelled to help fellow midwife and clinic founder, Charity Salima (pictured here with Sally). On her return, she created an appeal through Watson’s Malawi Partnership and raised £1,300 to help Charity meet her growing staff costs.

Every Easter, Sally takes a group of adults to Malawi to meet our partners and experience their work alleviating poverty among young people in the region.  This year, it was the turn of Veronica, Viv and Joan and nothing could prepare them for the brute devastation of tropical cyclone Freddy, one of the worst storms to hit the southern hemisphere.

This month, Malawi has experienced one of the strongest - and longest-lasting - storms ever recorded in the Southern Hemisphere. For those of you who have asked, we have included details of how you can support the families in need at the bottom of this article.

  The Christmas upcycling auction raised a mighty £574 for Malawi this year thanks to a record number of fabulously refurbished items by the Watson's DTE upcycling club.

  And in the blink of eye, it's all over! But for the 44 students - and nine members of staff who accompanied them - this trip marks the  start of a whole new love affair with Malawi and our partners there.

   On the last day of the October trip, we visited Charity Salima's award-winning clinic that has achieved so much for so many families in Area 23 of Lilongwe: dramatically reducing neonatal deaths and spearheading radical new family planning initiatives.    In the last year alone, Achikondi clinic has admitted 53 women for delivery, successfully delivering 51 babies while referring the other two women to hospital for specialist treatment. They have conducted 1774 ultra-sounds and supported 254 antenatal women.  In addition, the clinic has provided emergency medical support for 1678 people and more than 7000 families with family planning guidance and prophylactics, challenging local taboos head-on. But that's still not enough for Charity. It's been a long time coming, but we're now just weeks away from returning to Malawi.  This week, we gathered three years of donations, stored carefully around the school and beyond, and packed them into 43 suitcases to take with us to October. 

This month, we held our first home-grown plant sale and so far, we've raised £435.

  This week, we raised over £700 for our partners in Malawi with our first ever Bring & Buy Sale of second-hand outdoor kit. 

The  Upcycling Club  was busy this Christmas selling items rescued and carefully restored throughout the Autumn term in the DTE workshop. These students, from S6 through to S1, managed to raise over £500. This takes the total donated to Watson's Malawi Partnership this year to a staggering £1600. On behalf of all our partners, thank you!

  We’ve had a busy few months during lockdown, working to ensure that our projects and support could continue despite the challenges presented by COVID-19.  The team has been meeting regularly – virtually of course! – and we have some exciting updates to share with you.

  We couldn't visit Malawi in person this year, but we still managed to travel out there - Strava-style. In just seven weeks, 97 people ran, walked and cycled 21,018km through 15 countries to raise £872 for reforestation.

  Dear friends and members of the Watson Malawi Partnership and the George Watson’s College community, We were delighted to receive your recent donations following your virtual ‘Race Night’ in March 2021. You raised approximately £4,000, which is a fantastic sum in support of our vulnerable children and communities in Malawi, and we are grateful for your efforts and dedication. I hope you’ll enjoy hearing some of our latest news from Malawi, as in spite of the difficult conditions we have operated within over the last year, a couple of our children have successfully been able to reintegrate with their communities and return home after thorough assessments, including Blessings and Yankho.  We also welcomed a new baby, Shadreck Benson I pictured above), who was born on the 4 th April 2020 and who comes from Simon Village, T/A Nankumba, Mangochi District. His mother had passed away from high blood pressure on the 21 st November 2020, and after his aunt was no longer able to...
