RunWalkCycle to Malawi raises £872 for reforestation

We couldn't visit Malawi in person this year, but we still managed to travel out there - Strava-style.

In just seven weeks, 97 people ran, walked and cycled 21,018km through 15 countries to raise £872 for reforestation.

After a few mid-voyage changes, our route took us from outside the school gates down to the South Coast and over the English Channel, through France and Spain, across the Balearic and into Algeria. We continued down through the Sahara Desert into Niger before turning right into Nigeria, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea and Republic of Congo. We then continued down through Angola, Botswana and South Africa before heading back up through Zimbabwe and Zambia to arrive in Lilongwe, Malawi.

On the way, we encountered deadly scorpions, toxic cacti, grumpy camels and creeping sand-dunes as we journeyed through the Sahara Desert. We experienced the artistic side to Nigeria, Africa's Giant. We discovered that Cameroon has everything you would expect of Africa in Miniature, including a new football stadium to host the Africa Cup of Nations, and we watched hippos surfing in The Last Eden on Earth, otherwise known as Gabon. We navigated our way through the mine-fields of Angola, rowed past the hippos and crocodiles of the Okavango swamplands and stopped to admire the smoking thunder of the Victoria Falls.

And as you can see from this short video clip with Petal, Zomba TREEZ appreciate our efforts!

Now we're being treated to a guided tour of Malawi - virtually - with Aaron and Paul. You can join us here.
