Celebrating the 10th school trip to Malawi

  This year, we celebrated taking our tenth school trip to Malawi.  We have now taken 320 pupils, 22 members of staff and another 24 friends of Watson's Malawi Partnership to see this beautiful country and experience first-hand, the warm heart of Africa.

Breaking ground on Charity's new lab

  The fo undations are finally underway for Achikondi Clinic's new blood laboratory.  The lab will be used to run routine screening blood tests for malaria and other conditions that would benefit from early intervention and treatment.

Update from Namalu

It was great to receive news of Namalu from the Open Arms team. Its cle ar from the report that their reintegration strategy is progressing well and there is much we can do to support Namalu.

Mulanje's cedar restoration support

Each year, students on the annual school trip scale the heights of the majestic Mulanje Massif and witness for themselves the desperate consequences of deforestation in the region. For this reason, we are so pleased to support the MMCT's cedar restoration programme.

The big tree count

  It's time for the Zomba TREEZ community to count all the trees growing on the 30 hectare stretch of the South Western plain. And this year, the team has managed to protect a staggering 90,000 trees along with a further 20,000 planted in the local community. 

First court good as new

  We are pleased to report that the original netball court, completed in 2022 in Kaliyeka, has been restored to full working order. Between the baking sunshine and constant use, the court had picked up a few chips and cracks but thanks to our dream team led by Aaron Nyandeni Jere and Barry Turnbull, the court is as good as new.

Knees up for Malawi!

  Thank you to everyone who supported the WMP ceilidh in February. Together, w e raised over £6,000 which our partners will use to improve the health, education and sporting opportunities of children and young people in Malawi and protect the remaining forests of Mulanje and Zomba Plateau.

Update from Thom and his school garden project

  During our visit to Thom's Colourful Classrooms in October, we learned of Thom's plans to build his own solar powered irrigation system to grow food for the school children. There are now nearly 200 children of nursery school age who depend on Thom's school to eat so we were only too pleased to help him with the costs.  This week, we we were so pleased to learn Thom's plan is taking shape at pace! Thank you for your kind message I'm always grateful to hear from you 😊   We are all doing just fine And our school garden has just begun.We have planted some maize as we are in rain season.  Many thanks to GWC for the support 🙏 May God bless you all 🙌 .  We managed to purchase a tank and pump and installation is in process. We hope to make it ready by the end of the rain season.  I have just realized that a fence wire is also needed in order to protect our pipes from being vandalized and our plants from being damaged by cows, goats and chickens.
