Netball for All

The friends and family of Belinda Weller are working through the Watson's Malawi Partnership to extend netball to more women in Malawi.

In tribute to Belinda Weller and her two great passions - netball and the people of Malawi - Belinda's friends and family have launched a new initiative to enable more girls and young women to get involved with netball in Malawi.

Netball for All aims to secure the equipment, kit and coaching the sport needs to develop in a sustainable way, using local resources wherever possible to support the local economy.

Belinda Weller was an Australian-born neurologist who lived in Edinburgh with her husband and three children. She had a passion for sport and the positive effects it could have on young people.

As a founding member of the Watson’s Malawi Partnership, Belinda visited Malawi and felt inspired to do what she could to help Malawians bring themselves out of poverty. Belinda was a lifelong netball enthusiast, having played for her local teams in Adelaide, and later for South Australia. On her visits to Malawi, she experienced first-hand the power of sport in empowering young people and broadening their horizons.

When Belinda passed away in 2019, her family and friends created ‘Netball for All’ so that her love of the sport and the people of Malawi might live on. Its aim is to enable more girls and young women to get involved with netball in Malawi - securing the equipment, kit and coaching the sport needs to develop in a sustainable way, using local resources wherever possible to support the local economy.

Belinda’s family are incredibly grateful to everyone has supported Netball for All and hope this will be a fitting tribute to someone of whom they are so proud. So far, more than £6000 has been from friends and family in Australia, Scotland, and around the world for this very worthy cause.

Everyone at Watson's Malawi Partnership looks forward to working alongside the Weller family to bring Belinda's dream to fruition.
